“I strive to deliver practical, cost-effective solutions. When litigation is necessary, I aggressively pursue my clients’ interests.”

Taruna Garg, a partner at Murtha Cullina, is an award-winning commercial litigator whose practice areas include business litigation, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights. She has successfully prosecuted and defended appeals in state and federal courts, including bankruptcy courts.

Praised by the Connecticut Bar Association for her “strong work ethic,” Taruna brings more than 20 years of experience to her practice and has a deep understanding of banking and finance. She represents business debtors and their directors, officers and employees; secured and unsecured creditors; trustees; creditor committees; insurance companies; and contract counterparties such as landlords, suppliers and vendors.

Taruna’s solutions-focused counsel is invaluable to clients as they navigate a range of complex matters that include out-of-court workouts, liquidations, reorganizations, and Chapter 7, 11 and 15 proceedings. She also advises clients acquiring assets of distressed entities, both in and out of bankruptcy. She is experienced in handling liquidation and reorganization of public and private corporations, and in litigating adversary proceedings involving turnovers, fraudulent transfers, preferences, directors’ and officers’ liability, and mortgage avoidance actions.

In her litigation practice, Taruna advocates on behalf of individual and corporate clients at every stage of the process — in court, at settlement or in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) forums. She regularly handles breach of business contract, violation of non-competition agreements, successor liability, lender liability, complex tort and online defamation cases.

Before joining Murtha Cullina in 2006, Taruna represented local businesses for a small law firm. She credits this experience for enabling her to provide creative, practical and cost-effective solutions to complex issues. Today she continues to share her insights on litigation and bankruptcy issues facing small and mid-sized businesses in articles and in speaking engagements throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts.
