Murtha Cullina LLP is proud to announce that, for the third year in a row, its Appellate Practice Group has received a “Litigation Department of the Year Award” from the Connecticut Law Tribune. The award recognized appellate successes achieved for several firm clients.
In 2018, the Appellate Group helped shape the law through appellate matters in several areas including: bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, business litigation, elections, insurance recovery, municipal, product liability and torts.
Murtha Cullina lawyers presented arguments in high profile matters before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the Connecticut Supreme Court, the Connecticut Appellate Court, and the Massachusetts Appeals Court.
In addition, the Appellate Group filed several amicus briefs in cases pending before the Connecticut Supreme Court on behalf of the Connecticut Business & Industry Association, advancing the interests of the business community in defending product liability claims; the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities, advancing the interests of municipalities in issuing property assessments; the Connecticut Bar Association, providing guidance on the interplay of federal bankruptcy and state court proceedings; and United Policyholders, advancing the interests of homeowners seeking insurance coverage for crumbling basement walls.
In addition, the group’s associates were able to gain valuable appellate experience first chairing pro bono appeals before the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit through assignments from the Court’s Pro Bono Panel.
Members of the Appellate Group have litigated numerous appeals in the state and federal appeals courts at all levels in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York.
