Murtha Cullina LLP is proud to announce that three of its attorneys have been named 2021 “New Leaders in the Law” by the Connecticut Law Tribune. Patrick D. Coughlin, Emily McDonough Souza and Joseph D. Szerejko were selected for this honor for their outstanding legal work, pro bono efforts, service to the bar and community involvement.

Patrick is a member of the Trusts and Estates Department.  His practice includes estate planning, estate and probate administration and estate litigation.  He works closely with clients to develop and implement sophisticated estate plans and drafts various estate and trust administration documents for clients in Connecticut and New York. He also prepares federal estate tax returns in both states. Patrick received his J.D. from Quinnipiac University School of Law and his B.S. from Fordham University.

Emily is a member of the Litigation Department and the Labor and Employment Practice Group.  Her experience includes representing clients in a broad range of disputes involving insurance coverage, business torts, and contractual rights, as well as representing employers in claims involving discrimination and retaliation, breach of non-compete and restrictive covenants, and wage and hour violations.  She has regularly appeared on behalf of clients in both state and federal court matters.  Emily received her J.D. magna cum laude from Quinnipiac University School of Law and her B.S., magna cum laude, from the University of Connecticut.

Joe is a member of the Litigation Department, as well as the Municipal, Land Use, Appellate, Retail, and Community Banking Practice Groups. He represents individuals, municipalities, municipal officials, and business entities, both as plaintiff and defendant, in various litigation matters.  He has argued pretrial motions in Connecticut Superior Court and he has presented evidence on behalf of municipalities at administrative hearings and at hearings before Connecticut Superior Court.  Joe received his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law and his B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Bates College. 

The Connecticut Law Tribune honored the New Leaders in the Law at the annual Connecticut Legal Awards on May 12.
