Congratulations to Paul McCary on his selection as Energy Law “Lawyer of the Year” in Hartford, CT for the 2024 edition of The Best Lawyers in America®.

Paul has practiced in the energy and public utility areas since 1981. Beginning with early PURPA projects, he negotiated power sales agreements involving cogeneration and small power production projects. He has handled several traditional gas and water utility rate cases before the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority and he has represented merchant generators in numerous proceedings involving utility divestiture, standard service procurement and requests for proposal proceedings. Paul also has represented large gas and electricity consumers with respect to commodities acquisition and gas transportation agreements. Paul was an active participant in the electric industry restructuring effort in Connecticut, representing a power marketer seeking to implement customer choice at the retail level and independent power producers seeking to design, permit, finance and construct merchant power plants. Paul is the past President of the Connecticut Power and Energy Society, formerly known as the Connecticut Cogeneration Society, and was on the Board of Directors of the Northeast Energy & Commerce Association.
