HARTFORD, CT (January 30, 2018)…Murtha Cullina LLP Partners Keith S. Varian and Robert E. Kaelin have been appointed Co-Chairs of the Firm’s Community Banking Practice Group. 

Together with the other members of the Firm’s Community Banking Practice Group, Mr. Varien and Mr. Kaelin provide banks and other financial institutions with a comprehensive spectrum of legal services. 

The Community Banking Practice Group represents multi-bank holding companies and community banks. This group includes experienced attorneys in bank regulatory work; commercial and real estate lending; workouts and restructurings; sale of bank assets and loans; creditors’ rights and bankruptcy; mergers and acquisitions; product development and expansion; and general corporate and securities law.  In addition, the Community Banking Practice Group represents clients in establishing, capitalizing and restructuring banks and bank holding companies to meet the changing regulations in the industry.

Mr. Varian has extensive experience representing banks and other lending institutions as well as borrowers in real estate-based financings and other forms of asset-based lending.  He is a member of the Murtha Cullina Business and Finance Department and is also a member of the Long-Term Care, Health Care and Retail Practice Groups.  Mr. Varian received his Bachelor’s degree from Providence College and his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. 

Mr. Kaelin represents clients in the areas of commercial litigation and bankruptcy.  He is a member of the Murtha Cullina Litigation Department and is also the Co-Chair of the Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Practice Group.  He is the President of the Hartford County Bar Association and was recently named a James W. Cooper Fellow of the Connecticut Bar Foundation. Mr. Kaelin received his Bachelor’s degree from Miami University and his J.D. from Duke University School of Law.
