The Murtha Cullina associate training program reflects a balance between two goals: the early development of expertise in specific practice areas and the long-term development of a broad range of legal knowledge and lawyering skills. Apart from the lawyer-to-lawyer instruction that takes place on the job, the firm places an emphasis on organized educational efforts. Seminars and training sessions are provided in-house, and associates also learn by helping to prepare materials and presentations for clients and potential clients of the firm. The various departments and practice groups meet regularly to discuss current topics of interest, and we maintain a large audiotape and videotape library covering all parts of our practice. Advanced computer research training on Lexis and Westlaw is offered to all lawyers. We encourage associates to attend (and serve as panel members for) outside seminars in their respective specialties, and the firm often sponsors such programs in conjunction with bar associations and industry groups. Associates also attend programs sponsored by PLI, PESI, NBI, and other private organizations, many of which offer excellent opportunities for continuing legal education.

Partners of the firm devote substantial time to comprehensive reviews of each associate's performance. During each such review, the associate's strengths and weaknesses are discussed and constructive suggestions are offered. As a group, our associates meet monthly to discuss matters of general concern to the firm. Associates are also involved in a number of firm activities, including the Recruitment Committee and the Associates Committee.

The starting salary for associates who graduate in 2007 is $95,000 in the Hartford and New Haven, Connecticut offices and $105,000 in the Stamford, Connecticut and Boston, Massachusetts offices. The firm awards performance bonuses for special achievement. In addition, the firm pays for bar review courses and bar application fees.

Under our current benefits plan, associates are entitled to three weeks of paid vacation each year, parental leave, personal time, insurance (life, AD&D, short-term and long-term disability), a parking expense allowance, and, after one year, a profit-sharing retirement plan funded by the firm. Health coverage choices include a comprehensive health insurance plan and a dental plan, subject to a partial premium contribution which may be paid on an elective pre-tax basis. (Benefits may vary some according to the state in which an associate is employed.)

Murtha Cullina LLP is committed to promoting equal opportunity at all levels through a positive continuing program designed to ensure the full realization of equal employment opportunity without regard to race, color, religion, age, marital status, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, ancestry or disability.
